Ken Patterson broke into radio nearly seven years ago as the co-host of another Middays program on WSVA: Issues In Growth. In fact, that's how the team of Britt and Patterson got it's start. Ken and Jim Britt, WSVA's morning anchor, interview featured guests on hot, growth-related topics in the first hour of the show, then open up the phone lines to listeners in the second hour.
At the time, Ken was president of the Shenandoah Valley Builders Association and an officer on the board of the Virginia Home Builders Association. Besides thirty-five years experience in the building industry, Ken has served as an officer of the court as a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals.
From the beginning, the show faced a skeptical audience. How could a builder be objective about controversial growth related issues in a community experiencing many of the classic conflicts and stresses common to rural areas undergoing rapid change? The answer came in the form of earned credibility. From the very start, Ken insisted on a radically balanced editorial policy. For every subject covered, ranging from eminent domain to immigration, taxes, farm preservation and the environment, Ken and Jim have sought out the strongest available voices for opposing points of view. Jim and Ken have interviewed Senators, Governors, Supervisors, Community Activists, Educators...experts in a vast array of specialized fields, all in an effort to stimulate real dialogue and learning. Issues In Growth is now in its seventh year on the air and enjoys a regional audience.
